Catherine Hyland

Cathy enjoys creating with mixed media and her work ranges from traditional oil paintings, acrylic and watercolour to textile art pieces.

The textile work often starts life as hand felted wool, incorporating the beginnings of an image. This is then refined with hand stitching and beading to add detail to the picture.

In recent years she has been working on mono printing using a gelli plate. It is a very simple tool which gives quick results but can also be developed by the addition of many subtle layers and colours. Using plant material gives particularly effective results as well as a visual record of the seasons.
